What is it about?

A numerical three-dimensional study has been made of a micro-swimmer. The inertial effect has been taken into account, so that also swimmers of the order of 1 mm can be studied.

Why is it important?

The real significance and originality of the research is the influence of the time-dependent deformation of the surface of the swimmer. It makes a further step towards the behaviour of a real swimmer. A calculation was made of the oscillating and mean velocity of the swimmer.

Perspectives

Due to the three-dimensionality numerical calculation it has become possible to study more complex problems, such as the interaction between two swimmers or a swimmer close to a wall.
