What is it about?

Raman microscopy is an emerging biomolecular imaging tool. In this tutorial, we introduce slit-scanning Raman microscopy, a technique enabling high-speed Raman imaging analysis of living cells and fresh biological tissue, from the basic principle to the state-of-the-art developments for biomedical applications.

Why is it important?

Molecular imaging by Raman scattering does not require any treatment that can disturb delicate activities of living samples prior to measurement but is too slow in the conventional form to observe living samples. Slit-scanning Raman microscopy allows high-speed imaging of living samples by simple principle and apparatus and is unlimitedly useful for a variety of biomedical applications. This tutorial will provide readers with basic ideas for principle, instrumentation, applications, and perspectives of slit-scanning Raman microscopy.

Perspectives

Slit-scanning Raman microscopy is the high-speed imaging technology established by our group in 2008. The technique has shown a variety of biomedical applications and further potentials with a lot of technical advancements. We hope this tutorial presenting from the basic principle to the state-of-the-art developments will not only attract readers new to the field of Raman imaging and analysis for biomedical applications but also drive future innovative studies by Raman microscopy.
