What is it about?

Temporal contrast of a laser pulse is the intensity ratio of the main pulse and the low-intensity pedestal. We have bulit a stable single-shot fourth-order auto-correlator for temporal contrast measurement. The measurement accuracy can be self-verified conveniently.

Why is it important?

Temporal contrast is one of the key parameters of intense laser pulses with high focal intensity. In order to investigate the temporal contrast, the first step is to "see" the temproal contrast. We built a single-shot fourth-order auto-correlator with a measurement dynamic range of 3×10^-11, a temporal resolution of approximately 200 fs, and a time window of 68 ps in single shot. The high dynamic range, wide time window, high temporal resolution, excellent measurement fidelity, stable device, and real-time self-verification are combined in the proposed device.

Perspectives

We hope the single-shot fourth-order auto-correlator would help to investigate the temporal contrast property of high power laser pulses and realize better laser-matter interaction research.
