What is it about?

The new field of spintronics promises to provide a future replacement for electronic devices. The study of spin transport, however, is still at a preliminary stage from a mathematical point of view. In this paper, we review a few results in this direction with comparison to the known literature about electronic transport. In particular, these results apply to quantum Hall effect and quantum spin Hall effect.

Why is it important?

This paper reviews a few recent advancements in the mathematical theory of spin transport in comparison with the well-established theory of charge transport.

Perspectives

The paper is kept fairly non-technical, in order to make it readable for a broad audience from physics and mathematics.
