What is it about?
Highway construction is continuously growing throughout the world. Huge number of aggregates is consumed in road construction sector. This is putting pressure on available natural resources of aggregates. Due to the rapid quarrying of natural rocks to obtain aggregates, the environment and ecology is degrading day by day. This arises the need to find the sustainable road construction material alternate to the natural stone aggregates (NSA).Steel slag is an industrial waste generated from the steel manufacturing industries during the production of steel. In this study the physical, mechanical, visual, and morphological characterization of steel slag was conducted in view of the suitability of steel slag as an aggregate (SSA) in road construction. The obtained results showed that the SSA has potential to be utilized as an alternate to NSA.
