What is it about?

Sulfanilamide is antibacterial antibiotics, which cannot be easily removed from waste water. In this work, Fe3O4@chitosan beads have been proved to be high efficient for degradation of sulfanilamide under the photo-Fenton process. Moreover, the catalysts could be easy to separate from the solution and environmentally friendly.

Why is it important?

The Fe3O4@chitosan beads showed excellent photo-Fenton degradation of sulfanilamide and easy to separate from the solution by using external magnetic field. Furthermore, it could be reused at least three times with good catalytic activity, ensured this catalyst to be a promising one in the application of environmental purification for degradation of organic pollutants in aqueous solution.

Perspectives

We hope that the synthesized Fe3O4@chitosan beads are useful catalyst for photo-Fenton degradation of sulfanilamide or similar organic contaminant in environmental pollution cleanup. More importantly, the catalysts are easily separated from the solution, low cost and environmentally friendly.
