What is it about?
Progression of the HIV infection toward AIDS with the antigenic diversity exists in the infected individual crosses a threshold value when the AIDS condition begins to occur. The successive sexual contacts and sharing of needles with an infected partner may give rise to their antigenic diversity level. In this paper, Antigenic diversity threshold is assumed to be a random variable. Taking three modes of getting the infection, namely, heterosexual and homosexual contacts and sharing of needles with randomly selected partners, the expected time to get AIDS is derived with its variance. Numerical illustrations are provided using simulation techniques to substantiate the results.

Why is it important?
After an individual is infected with HIV how to extend the time of getting AIDS is the main concept that has been modeled using the Stochastic process and the distributions.
