Before taking up to study low dimensional nano sized systems it is necessary to calculate correctly the properties of simplest system which is the two-dimensional electron gas. Experiment shows that conductivity of the free electron gas contained in a thin film depends smoothly on its thickness d. This article confirms this by calculation.
Why is it important?
The method of article can be applied to other systems whose dimensions are reduced even more, like nanostrips or nanowires.
