What is it about?

This paper presents the use of computational modelling to predict the deformation and settlements of railway tracks due to repeated train loading.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that traditional ballasted railway tracks experience significant settlements under repeated train loading. The proposed computational model using discrete and continuum methods can be used to predict the settlement of railway track.

Perspectives

We hope that this article can help railway practising engineers have broader ideas and tools to design railway tracks
