Study Inca Road in the perspective of civil engineering.

What is it about?

Incar Road (Qhapaq Ñan, Inka Road) is one of the famous historical road. The design concept and physical property of 500-year-old Inca Road were studied by using current engineering tools and approaches including laser distant measurer, photogrammetry, 3D point cloud, satellite communication. Buildings, shelters, roads, trails, culverts, and arch were investigated along the ancient highway of Inca Road. Some of those were captured in 3D models point cloud by using photogrammetry technique. During the trip along the Inca Road, several issues were discussed with experts in Smithsonian Institute and Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Data was sent back and forth along with live broadcast were also done via the satellite telecommunication.

Why is it important?

Research data was used for the exhibition of the ancient highway of Inca Road in National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. Several properties along the Inca Road were measured by using current engineering tools such as laser distant measurer, photogrammetry, and 3D point cloud.
