What is it about?

High ammonium content of anaerobic reject water produced as anaerobic digesters' effluents was treated with its own organic matter in a sequential batch reactor at pilot-scale and both aerobic and anoxic denitritation was obtained. Total nitrogen removal reached values over 80% via regulation of operational mode without any chemical addition.

Why is it important?

No chemical was used and total nitrogen (ammnium and nitrite) was removed over 80% and organic matter was removed as well as directed to denitritation.
