What is it about?

In this paper, a methodology is applied to compare the performance of a selected five EAs namely, genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), memetic algorithm (ME), and modified shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA). The application is carried out on two benchmark networks (Two-loops and New-York) in addition to the real water distribution of El-mostakbal city, Egypt.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that the PSO and SFLA technique are suitable for management of complex water distribution networks while, also these two techniques in addition to ACO technique are suitable for simple networks. The recent optimization techniques (such as: PSO, ACO, and SFLA) outperformed the best than GA.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. This article also lead to introduce a comparative study among the results of the five algorithms.
