This paper explores the importance house buyers place upon security when purchasing a new home. It also investigates the extent to which they are willing to pay an additional premium for a secure property. This paper goes on to explore the extent to which house buyers are deterred by the reference to security.

Why is it important?

House buyers share their views on the importance of security in their decision making - what priority do they place on a secure property? Are they willing to pay extra for a secure property? And are they deterred by the reference to enhanced security. Some extremely interesting findings that are relevant to developers, planners, urban designers and police.

Perspectives

Although this research was conducted over a decade ago, it's an extremely interesting paper and an area of research that has not been explored in the ensuring years. The findings show that house buyers place security at the top of their priority list when buying a new home, and they are willing to pay extra for a secure environment.
