What is it about?
This book looks at the notion of style in literature. More specifically, it argues that style is not simply a mark of ownership but may also be thought as an 'event'. The approach adopted is a combination of theoretical insights from Derrida, Blanchot and Gadamer with close readings of a range of literary texts, especially the poetry of Paul Celan.

Why is it important?
The book is useful to anyone interested in the concept of style. It provides an overview of style theories (political, formalist, philosophical, stylistic, reader response etc) and then proceeds to extend the concept of style through the notion of the 'event'.
