What is it about?

The years following the Second World War saw vast changes in Italy, with reconstruction, the Cold War, and teh development of a modern consumer society. Women and the family were at the centre of national debates in this period of transition, but their role in Italian society and their cultural activities at the time have tended to be overlooked. This volume brings together specialists from a variety of disciplines to develop a deeper understanding of the social, political, and cultural history of women in Italy during those years. By focusing on female experience and by broadening the frame of reference to include subjects and sources often ignored, or only alluded to, previously, the essays in this volume break new ground and challenge previous interpretations.
