What is it about?

ESD has been performed in the terminal ileum achieving an en bloc resection with negative margins (R0) of a superficial neoplasm with high-grade dysplasia (curative resection). ESD has never been performed in this location due to the high difficulty level and risk of adverse events. The ileal neoplasm has been diagnosed at retrograde ileoscopy performed routinely in our center.

Why is it important?

ESD is feasible and safe in the terminal ileum by ESD experts. Retrograde ileoscopy should be performed routinely during colonoscopy.

Perspectives

Retrograde ileoscopy should be performed routinely during colonoscopy. ESD should be always considered before surgery referral.
