Incidence of Soft-tissue Injuries in Patients with Posterolateral Tibial Plateau Fractures.

Why is it important?

Posterolateral tibial plateau fractures were associated with a high incidence of soft-tissue injuries, especially ACL footprint avulsions and lateral meniscus tears. The preoperative MRI examination was important for surgeons to decide whether the ligament and meniscal injuries should be treated simultaneously with the repair of the bone fractures.

Perspectives

Because the high incidence of the ACl footprint avulsions associated with the posterolateral tibial plateau fractures, incisions should be carefully designed preopration in order to treat both the complex bone fractures and the severe soft tissue injury in one time. Different combinations of incisions can be used based on the precise diagnosis of soft tissue injury, for which MRI is one of the most important tools.
