Outcomes for Extremely Preterm Infants

What is it about?

This review provides an overview of outcomes for extremely preterm infants, with a focus on survival and common morbidities, including neurodevelopmental impairment.

Why is it important?

Understanding outcomes of extremely preterm infants can help better counsel families regarding antenatal and postnatal care and guide strategies to improve survival without morbidity.

As I researched studies for this review, I found the relatively large variation in survival for extremely preterm infants in recent studies from the US, UK and Sweden to be interestingly juxtaposed with the remarkably similar long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes (albeit with different definitions).
