Why is it important?

We verified that smoking is correlated with oral disorders, which are risk factors for tooth loss and masticatory changes. Speech-language pathology intervention with smokers is initially prevention; however, the consequences caused by smoking make smokers future patients because of the imbalance in the stomatognathic system. More studies should be done to raise awareness in the population about the damage caused by smoking and also to standardize the findings in this population.
