Why is it important?
Psychiatric patients frequently present self-defeating behaviors. Helping the patient to cope with his dilemma in another way and stop these hamful behaviors directed at himself can be a crucial step to recovery.
Perspectives
Triggering a reaction of healthy rebellion against self-defeating behaviors can reactivate the patient's creativity. Challenging the patient and using therapist's humor can be used as therapeutic tools towards this goal.
