What is it about?
Tailings storage facility plays the key role copper production. Commonly, it is located in close distance to mining area, thus it is exposed to vibration induced by rockburst. In the paper the reactions of the dam during the extreme mining shocks that occurred in 2016 are analysed. The commercial codes based on finite element method and the explicit time-integration method were used.The acceleration and displacement time-series were successfully reproduced.

Why is it important?
Analysing the dynamic response in the time domain of a complex structure that is the tailings dam requires many assumptions and reliable data. The possibility of verification of numerical calculations with measured data leads to the calibration of the model and hence increases the safety of a design structure.
