What is it about?

The article examines the methodology for assessing the risk of failure of the operation of the elements of the track upper structures during operations, since it is them that determine the suitability of any element of the infrastructure for safe operation.

Why is it important?

The applicable regulatory base defines the limits (performance criteria) of the construction of the track upper structure at certain stages of its operation, but it does not make it possible to predict the deterioration of its condition over time. In this study, a method for assessing the risk of failure of the construction of the upper structure of the seamless rail track during its operation with the growth of the resulting tonnage is established.

Perspectives

Each element of the track upper structure - rails, fasteners, sleepers, ballast layer - with different speeds accumulates defects and deformations at a certain value of cargo turnover. With this in mind, for each i-th element, for the first time, the probability of failure-free operation is calculated and an integral index of construction is established for the total tonnage development. For planning of track repair operations, the mathematical model of the forecast (taking into account operating conditions of the railway section) of failure of upper structure elements has been developed. Graphical interpretation of calculation results has been provided.
