What is it about?

A novel design approach is proposed for UWB micro-strip filter using QLS EBG unit cell for the reduction of the size and enhancing the performance of the filter. The measured results show that the proposed UWB filter exhibits significantly improved performance, and has smaller size when compared to other reported UWB filters. The filter has high selectivity, compact size (0.45 x 0.38) λo. The filter exhibits an attenuation level greater than 20 dB at both lower and upper stop-bands. Moreover, the filter has an insertion loss of 0.5 dB, a return loss better than 14 dB, and a fractional bandwidth of more than 100% at 6.8 GHz centre frequency. This section introduced the design of a QLS UWB BPF. The results show that it has 0.4..dB insertion loss 15 dB return loss compact design and a fractional bandwidth of 110%

Why is it important?

Its a novel bandpass filter which integrates quasi lumped structure with electromagnetic bandgap (EBG)

Perspectives

The bandpass filter is compact when compared to other works cited in the paper. Moreover the technique EBG, is easily tunable and has a good selectivity.
