What is it about?

This study presents a new strategy for limiting switching over voltages. The results of our work can be used to perform proper insulation coordination of UHV transmission lines. This work includes point on wave switching as the best strategy to limit switching over voltages without needing any arrester. Performing detailed transient studies in the design of transmission systems is complicated and is not common in day-to-day operations. Also, it is challenge for the power utility and/or operator to ensure that the peak value of SOVs is well within the safe limits. This study presents a strategy in a transient software as EMTP/ATP by considering important parameters to train an ANFIS meta-model used to solve this challenge. The proposed meta-model can be used by power utilities and/or design engineers for planning the proper insulation level without consuming time to meet a desirable value of risk. Moreover, the operators can decide on the energisation of lines in sequence, which is safe and leads to successful energisation.

Why is it important?

Because the transmission line transfers huge the electric energy of the power system. The power outage is the most important problem. This study presents best strategy for limiting switching over voltages as main reason of power outage along transmission lines. This work can be directly used by power utilities and/or design engineers for planning the proper insulation level without consuming time to meet a desirable value of risk. Moreover, the operators can decide on the energisation of lines in sequence.

Perspectives

In my idea, this work can solve many problems of planner and operator engineering in the power utilities. The trained ANFIS is a straight in this field for each the power system without need the deep knowledge of switching transients and EMTP simulation.
