What is it about?
Transformer may lead to failure due to conducting particle in oil. Therefore early detection is very important. Partial discharge measurement is one of the non-destructive technique to ensure the condition of transformer. Partial discharge measurement can reveal the information of particle presence in oil at different electric field.

Why is it important?
Many researchers have studied the effect of particles on the insulation performance of mineral oil. The studies were primarily concentrated on PD and breakdown characteristics with spherical particle under uniform or quasi uniform electric field. However, practically mineral oil in transformer may contain different kind of particles having different size, shape and number. This paper presents the effect of irregular shape copper particles on transformer oil PD characteristics under uniform, quasi uniform and non-uniform field stress.
Perspectives
This paper presents the effect of irregular shape copper particles on transformer oil PD characteristics under uniform, quasi uniform and non-uniform field stress. This can supplement to decide the conditioning of oil, before going to any high voltage test.
