What is it about?

This paper aims to propose two approaches that attempts to deal with the new operating conditions requisites during microgrid operation planning, for connected to main grid or in isolated mode.

Why is it important?

During its operation, an electrical power system can suffer severe disturbances, such as surges, short circuits, sudden load changes, among others. These events, even if it is of large or small scale, can disconnect parts of the system due to special protection schemes actuation leading to transmission lines, transformers and generators outages. Likewise, these events can separate part of the system, electrically isolated from the main grid, forming microgrids. However, the negative impacts of these events can be mitigated to improve the reliability of customer service, when the islanded operation is considered.

Perspectives

In my opinion, this article is important because it demonstrates the use of concepts already used in large-scale power systems in microgrids. On the other hand, the paper also has important contributions related to the frequency and voltage control of these networks when operating in an islanded mode.
