What is it about?

A very simple but powerful synchronous drive circuit with current limitation is proposed for all-solid-state pulse generators. It provides both signals and driving power from the common primary side of transformers which spares the use of isolated power supply for drives, and the negative bias voltage enhances the EMC. Moreover, the proposed circuit can flexibly change the value of clamped current according to practical requirements.

Why is it important?

Driving circuits in all-solid-state pulse generators require synchronous signals and isolated driving power supplies for all switches which are quite difficult for high-voltage pulse generators. Moreover, the drive circuits must be able to operate under a strong electric-magnetic interference environment. But the proposed drive circuit can meet all these requirements successfully at a very low price. It can even provide a negative bias gate voltage to improve the EMC of the system.

Perspectives

The proposed drive circuit meets all the requirements including synchronous driving, a negative bias gate voltage and over-current protection of high-voltage pulse generators. It's quite simple in structure and easy to use. It makes the driving of solid-state pulse generators cheaper, simpler, more compact and more reliable.
