What is it about?
Using local communications, the local controllers associated with the converter cells exchange information. Both local carrier waveform and local capacitor voltage value are sent to the neighboring local controllers. By comparing their own local values with the neighboring ones, the system is able to automatically interleave the carriers and balance the capacitor voltages without the help of a centralized superviseur.

Why is it important?
The output voltage or current regulation is centralized while balancing and interleaving are decentralized. This control method leads to simplified drasticaly the centralized part of the control and provides a simplier way to deal with a large number of cells.
