What is it about?
The reliability of the inverter in a single-phase grid-connected solar PV system is mainly affected by (1) the vulnerability of power semiconductor devices to failure, and (2) the low lifetime of electrolytic capacitors used in dc-link. In literature, these two problems are not addressed together in a single topology. In this regard, a fault-tolerant strategy is proposed in this paper.

Why is it important?
The overall reliability of the inverter can be improved only if both the problems [ (1) the vulnerability of power semiconductor devices to failure, and (2) the low lifetime of electrolytic capacitors ] are addressed together in a single topology. The proposed strategy addresses both the problems together, which leads to improvement in the overall reliability of the inverter.
Perspectives
The publication is useful for the power electronics engineers in designing the inverters with high reliability.
