What is it about?

This paper proposes to increase inverter reliability using a dual-stage PV inverter system with small dc-bus link film capacitors, where a high-gain high-frequency isolated step-up dc-dc converter processes the energy from PV arrays.

Why is it important?

This converter topology in combination with a digital resonant control strategy for elimination of the low frequency power ripple in photovoltaic (PV) array makes possible reducing dc-bus link capacitance without reduction of power extracted from PV system.

Perspectives

Electrolitic capacitors of dc-bus link normally present the lowest mean time between failures among other electronic components of photovoltaic inverters.
