What is it about?

While nanoparticles are known to exhibit antimicrobial properties, their effects on symbiotic arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in plant roots has to be carefully examined as nanoparticles particularly of TiO2 reaches plant roots through varied sources such as fertilizers, plant protection products and other nanoproducts.

Why is it important?

The study revealed that the prepared nanoparticles had an inhibitory effect on arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis in plant roots.

Perspectives

The increased use of engineered nanoparticles raises concern about their adverse effects on soil biota , more studies on this topic have to be carried out.
