What is it about?

This paper attempts to perform a 3D reconstruction of the lines of a breast from two mammograms referred by cranio caudal view and the medio lateral oblique mammographic views.

Why is it important?

Abnormalities in the breast are detected from an image (mammogram) of the projection of the breast. However it is possible that two lines that lie in separate regions in the breast overlap on one another in a mammogram. Some abnormalities of the breast such as architectural distortion are related to intersecting lines in a mammogram. Intersecting lines in a mammogram may lie at separate regions in the breast which means that these intersecting lines refer to a normal tissue. To remove ambiguity whether intersecting lines do lie at separate regions in the breast, a 3D reconstruction of the lines in a breast becomes necessary. This motivates us to take up this problem of 3D reconstruction of lines in a breast.
