What is it about?

Supraharmonic is a new power quality problem in the process of power electronics. In order to analyze the characteristics of supraharmonic, this paper takes voltage source converter (VSC) as an example to analyze the supraharmonic emission mechanism of the devices with the control of sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM), and the spread characteristics and emission levels of supraharmonic of grid-connected VSCs are analyzed.

Why is it important?

Through analyzing the supraharmonics emitted by grid-connected VSCs, two significant findings are that: a) the grid-connected VSCs are essentially supraharmonic voltage sources and b) the supraharmonic components mainly flow into the adjacent devices, and only a small part flows into the grid, which is different from the spread characteristic of low-frequency harmonics.

Perspectives

At present, the main concern of grid companies and consumers is the problem of traditional low-frequency harmonics. However, with the increasing content of supraharmonics in the grid, and the emission characteristics and spread law of supraharmonics are significant differences with the traditional low-frequency harmonics. Therefore, this paper is written in the hope that supraharmonics will gradually get the attention of grid companies and consumers.
