What is it about?

In traditional voltage control strategies, it is assumed that we have perfect information on the parameters of the network components. However, in practice, there are uncertainties associated with the actual values of load, line and transformer parameters, which may significantly alter the decisions of current algorithms. In this work, the voltage control is therefore embedded within a robust optimization framework that fully considers model uncertainties.

Why is it important?

The simulation outcomes highlight that neglecting model uncertainty in the voltage control problem can lead to infeasible solutions while the proposed robust algorithm provides a corrective solution that remains protected against the studied uncertainties.

Perspectives

Based on our results, it is interesting to combine uncertainties on: (1) network parameters and (2) the system state (i.e. future values of loads and distributed generation). In that regard, controling the level of conservativeness of the decision procedure can help increasing the quality of the voltage control.
