What is it about?
Current differential protection is a principle of relaying, on which the differential current between both sides of the line relied. Since it relies on current differences between both sides, the requirment for synchronization is very strict. The paper proposes an algorithm which accelerates the transmission communication so that the performance of the protection is improved.

Why is it important?
We propose rules for encoding and decoding the current so that the redundance can be effectively removed. Comparing with traditional current differential protections, the rules are able to reduce at least 44% of the system traffic whenever internal or external faults happen. On basis of the rules, an improved algorithm of current differential protection is proposed. It facilitates the realization of Wide-Area Differential Protection (WADP) in practice.
Perspectives
As the first author of the paper, what I think the most important of it is that it facilitates the realization of Wide-Area Differential Protection (WADP) in practice. Current differential protection is an outstanding principle. But with the development of scale of our power system, time delay has been a serious problem to the protection. The proposed algorithm deals with this problem effectively.
