What is it about?

This paper proposes a methodology to address the trading strategies of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) in cooperation with its neighbouring VPPs.

Why is it important?

According to the smart grid concept, the future distribution systems will definitely encompass numerous DERs, and thus the physical connection and commercial contribution among their vicinities will be inevitable. Therefore, from an individual VPP’s viewpoint, the cooperation with neighbouring VPPs would provide a golden opportunity for managing the risk of profit variability and achieving high profits.

Perspectives

In this research work, we have tried to mathematically model the cooperation of an individual VPP with its neighbouring VPPs through cross-regional contracts to show how a VPP can adopt a medium-term trading strategy to hedge against the risk of pool price volatility. This idea is specific to this paper.
