What is it about?
A line outage can become very dangerous and can lead to major blackouts. Hence proper measures should be taken in advance. A method has been suggested to improve the power system performance in case of a line outage to avoid blackouts. An IPFC device has been used for the purpose.

Why is it important?
Events of blackout have been occuring quite frequently. Blackouts can prove to be very harmful to the daily life of the people. Also it causes a lot of financial loss to the industries. The countries security system may also dwindle. Outage of a line or any other equipments in the power system is the major cause behind the blackouts. Hence, there is a need to protect the power systems in the event of such contingencies.
