What is it about?
Recently, by the emergence smart grids, many distributed generations have been connected to power system near the loads, thanks to high technology progress. DG is a small scale electric energy source to produce electricity close to the end users of power. The presence of DGs have some protection issues such as islanding. Island refer to a part of electrical power system which is separated from rest of system and (DG) continues to power island area. Islanding can be dangerous to utility workers, who may not realize that a circuit is still powered, and it may prevent automatic re-connection of devices. Based on IEEE standards, island must be immediately detected and disconnect from the rest of power system. This is referred to as islanding detection method.

Why is it important?
-I developed this new detection algorithm that consider Multiple DGs’ effects on the islanding detection as well as other UL 1741 tests. -This method successfully passed all islanding test. -The important advantage of this method is its easy implementation. -The implementation of this method does not require any considerable changes in the structure of inverter. -In the proposed method, a brilliant idea is used. The idea is that the difference between the DG instantaneous voltage phase angle (VPA) and the nominal VPA is used as input to trigger DG when island formed. -There are no significant adverse effects on the power quality during grid connected mode of power systems. -Another advantage of this method is that this algorithm detects island successfully within 0.5 seconds.
