What is it about?

Model Predictive Control is an alternative controller for motor drive applications. The concept of MPC is simple and intuitive compared to the well known Direct Torque Control (DTC) and Field Oriented Control (FOC). However, computational complexity is the main problem of the controller. A low complexity MPC is proposed in this article.

Why is it important?

The proposed low complexity MPC can be implemented easily. Besides, MPC yields better motor performance than DTC and FOC.

Perspectives

A low speed microprocessor can be used to implement MPC for motor drive applications due to the proposed low complexity MPC. This will reduce the implementation cost of the controller.
