What is it about?
Higher reliability electric motors for critical application market segments such as electric and hybrid vehicles, aerospace, and military.

Why is it important?
Lower torque ripple and better fault tolerance increases the service life of the motor.
Perspectives
With conventional Interior Permanent Magnet motors and Permanent Magnet assisted Synchronous Reluctance motors gaining enormous interest in applications such EVs, HEVs and military vehicles, it is really important to make them better fault tolerant. Five-phase PMa-SynRM as compared with three-phase PMa-SynRM, in this article, provides better fault tolerance, lower torque ripple, and lower back-EMF harmonics. Clearly, the five-phase PMa-SynRM can be the next generation motor for the above mentioned applications.
