What is it about?

This work is about 1-D and 2-D wavelength/time code's performance analysis in the OCDMA system considering the effect of atmospheric turbulence (lognormal and gamma-gamma fading models are used to characterize turbulence) and weather conditions like fog, haze, and clear air. It demonstrates analytically how turbulence especially strong turbulence causes link failure in the foggy weather.

Why is it important?

The growing demand for bandwidth in the access network requires technology which can support high data rate multimedia applications. 2-D OCDMA can provide data rate in Gbps for next generation passive optical network stage 3 (NG-PON3). This study helps in understanding the effect of turbulence and weather conditions on the link and how 2-D code is superior to the 1-D code.
