What is it about?

Errors in engineering simulations can be caused by a number of reasons and it is essential to avoid such errors particularly if the analysis being conducted could lead to an unsafe design. This article looks at simulation governance as an approach for avoiding such errors and concentrates, in particular, on software and solution verification.

Why is it important?

Simulation governance is essential if sound engineering designs are to be realised. The finite element method, whilst commercialised in slick software, remains a difficult technique to master with many pitfalls for the unwary. In today's environment where engineers are using such software tools with sometimes little education or experience, it is essential that the basic ideas presented in this article are understood and practiced.
