What is it about?
We demonstrate error-free transmissions of 10-Gbit/s non-return to zero optical signals along 2.5-cm long SiGe waveguides at a wavelength of 1.98 µm.

Why is it important?
To date, optical telecommunciation in the 2 µm spectral band have been demonstrated into fibers but in waveguides, there are almost no results. this paper demonstrates high bit rate telecommunications in this new band.
Perspectives
These results paves the way for the use of SiGe-based component for high-repetition rates transmissions combined with simultaneous nonlinear processing in this new spectral region.
