What is it about?
A cost-effective two-dimensional DCT and IDCT architectures capable of supporting multiple standards of MPEG, H.264 and VC-1. We employ a time-distribution scheme to enable the simultaneous processing of the first and second dimensions to enhance throughput.

Why is it important?
We developed a 2-D DCT/IDCT comprising a single 1-D DCT/IDCT core with a transpose memory circuit to enhance throughput and achieve hardware utilization of 100%. The resulting design provides four computation paths in conjunction with a time-distribution scheme to enable the simultaneous processing of 1-D and 2-D transforms.
