What is it about?

Antiresonant peaks are the major reason for resonance that result in EMI issues. Minimizing their peak value is important in electronic designs. This paper studies and minimizes the antiresonant peak when a magnetically coupled resistive loop is present. The study is important for optimizing ferrite beads. It can also be used as an alternative method to using ferrite beads to damp resonance.

Why is it important?

Ferrite beads are frequency dependent when it comes to damping resonance. Not all frequencies are available, which limits their use in all cases. Also ferrite beads are costly, and may not be a good solution for integrated circuits. This method uses only resistors, which are cheaper solution also integration is very easy. The method is frequency independent, which is a major advantage over ferrite beads.

Perspectives

This has lot of direct applications. The ferrites add additional inductance to the damping loop. The optimization is general enough that for optimizing the ferrite beads also the equations described can be used.
