What is it about?

The article proposes a fast coding unit splitting algorithm, based on an adaptation classification model, to terminate the coding unit partitioning process for the high efficiency video coding standard used in digital television.

Why is it important?

Any improvement in the HEVC compression efficiency come at high computational cost, especially when encoding the UHD content. New studies that addresses this subject should be considered for future generations of digital video coding standards

Perspectives

Because any improvement in the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) compression efficiency has a high computational cost, the authors proposed an efficient coding unit (CU) decision algorithm, based on fast machine learning, to determine the CU splittings level for the digital television ultra high definition (UHD) content.
