Why is it important?
3D fingerprint has an advantage of against spoofing attacks such as fake fingerprints. We provide free 3D fingerprint databases for the community to research 3D fingerprint authentication.
Perspectives
2D fingerprint has been well investigated and widely deployed for border control. such as biometric passports, access control,etc. Yet we have seen many reports of breaking the system via fake fingerprints. 3D fingerprint can be effectively used to combat this problem as adversaries will be infeasible to acquire a 3D fingerprint data in making a fake one. This free 3D fingerprint database will be very useful for the design and evaluation 3D fingerprint based authentication systems.
