What is it about?

A detailed model of wind farms is not suited for small-signal stability analysis since it leads to a complicated high-order model and too much time for simulations, and equivalent modeling is a common approach. This study proposes a novel equivalent modelling method of wind farm, which can be used for small-signal stability analysis and researches on damping control of low-frequency oscillation.

Why is it important?

The equivalent modelling method proposed clusters wind turbines concerning the oscillation characteristics of the whole wind farm, which is reflected by the modes and modal participation factors. A simple criterion for the validity of the equivalent model is proposed based on the oscillation modes distributed on the complex plane.

Perspectives

According to the similarity of the oscillation characteristics of wind turbines, which is derived from the equivalent modelling results, the coordinated control of wind turbines or wind farms can be development in the future.
