Identification of voltage stability condition of a power system using measurements of bus variables

Why is it important?

This paper proposes a method to determine voltage stability condition of an interconnected power system, using two consecutive measurements of real power, reactive power and voltage magnitude of a bus. The measurements of real power, reactive power and bus voltage magnitude at a bus could be extracted/captured from a smart energy meter (SEM). SEM is available in the price range of $8.00–$500.00. Further, the proposed method is independent of remote measurement and also does not invite any type of continuous operating cost. Therefore, the financial involvement for implementation of the proposed method would be significantly lower compared with that of PMU-based method.
