What is it about?

We investigated the effects of dust on solar PV modules for tracking and stationary modules. The aim was to see if we could reduce the impact of dust soiling with some passive dust mitigation strategies.

Why is it important?

It was the first formal study in South Africa regarding the effects of dust on solar power output and how these effects could be reduced (if at all) with some passive (little to no human effort) strategies. We have proven that the use of anti-soiling coatings is perhaps not the best idea considering the added costs.
